The aim of this study is to get ideas and tips for the reform of Korean teacher Education program through an mini-ethnographic study of an American university's success case. Funded by Benedum Foundation since the 1980's, West Virginia University has developed a unique 5 year action research oriented teacher education program which is called "the Benedum Model of Teacher Education at West Virginia University" based on the medical education model. Though this program turned out first graduates in 2000, this program got national recognition already in 2003

Based on participant observation and interviews as well as document analysis conducted during six weeks in spring of 2005, this study describes history, curriculum, management and participants' view of the Benedum Model of Teacher Education at West Virginia University. Based on this description, this study analyzes how and why the reform has been achieved successfully. This study also suggests ideas and tips which might be useful for the successful reform of Korean teacher education programs
